[attr="class","SScontent2temp1"] Anika was born the only daughter of Nicolai and Holly Trisken, a pair of well-off (but not filthy rich) company owners who had struggled for years to have a child of any kind. The two loved and doted on their daughter, and took her to church with them right from the start, showing her the love of the Lord that they believed had given her to them at what had felt like the lowest point in their lives.

Once she was old enough, her parents began sending her to two very different classes-her mother insisted she go to dance class, taking her to ballet, tap, and ballroom lessons, while her father, wanting her to be able to defend herself, took her instead to karate, judo and kendo lessons. She took to both, loving the different techniques that she was taught and finding similarities between the two very different disciplines. However, it wasn't long before she realised that while she loved to dance, she loved fighting more-and not because she was able to beat others up, but because she was able to defend the friends she made at school from the bullies that had believed they and the others would be easy targets.
[break]
This was quickly proved to not be the case, and Anika was soon known to be someone to avoid if you were a bully-and not just because she was able to give as good as she got physically, but because she was also smart enough to outwit most of them, too, leaving them behind her academically despite all the extra classes her parents were putting her through.
[break]
When she was ten, her parents give her a choice-she could continue with either her dance lessons or her fighting lessons. For Anika, this was an easy choice, despite the fact that she had a surprisingly kind heart that resonated with the people around her-she chose her fighting lessons, and began to truly throw herself into them, honing her body as much as she possibly could for the line of work she had already chosen for herself-that of a bodyguard.

Once she turned eighteen, Anika left home and found a place of her own in a city, where she eventually found work as a bodyguard despite being told repeatedly that she wasn't suitable for the work (it took her revealing her black belts in karate and judo to convince her new employers that she really could keep up with the men while on the job). It was there she learned how to handle a gun, and while she wasn't as good a shot as she would have liked she worked as hard as she possibly could to hone the skill, knowing that while she may already be able to fight that most criminals would have a gun-and that if you have a gun then you have at least a slight advantage.
[break]
Anika worked at her job for nine years, and was promoted to a higher ranking among the bodyguards during this time. She worked for men and women that paid extortionate amounts for her skills, and while there was the occasional quibble about her being a woman or her small size (Anika is only five foot five inches in height) it is soon dispelled after proof of her abilities are given to the client.
[break]
It was while she was on a job that Anika was killed-her client came under attack, and while she managed to get the man to safety, she herself was taken captive by the kidnappers and held as a hostage-and amusement. After a couple of months of being held by them, they decided they'd had enough of holding her prisoner and shot her execution style in the back of her head. When she woke in Purgatory and discovered she was an angel in training, she was delighted in some ways and horrified in others.
[break]
Delighted, because it meant she could continue protecting people, even as an angel, and horrified because it meant her parents would now never have grandchildren, Anika hasn't been an angel for long, but is already applying the same level of determination and stubbornness to her calling as a Protectorate as she has everything else she has ever done, and, as always, isn't taking no for an answer from anyone but those confirmed as being her superiors.
