Anika stood in a part of the courtyard, looking over her shoulder at her wings as she stretched them out behind her and then to either side, trying to get some feel of how to control them. She'd been trying to learn how to feel the muscles in them, and had begun to recognise what she had to do, but still wasn't quite sure she had it right.
And that was why she was stood in the courtyard now, with her wings spread out to their maximum width. They were beautiful, really, a gorgeous snowy white colour that she would never have expected to be real if she hadn't believed in angels before all this. Now, though, she brought them round in front of her, exploring how far they could go. The more she knew about their range before she actually tried flight the better, after all.
Happy that she knew as much as she was ever going to know, Anika turned her gaze onto the courtyard in front of her, and then backed up a little before beginning to run. She knew she needed to build some speed up before she took the actual jump, and as she had a clear pathway in front of her she was confident that she could get the speed she needed.
She was about twenty metres from the end of the pathway when she hopped once on her left leg and then jumped, just like she would if she were doing the long jump-only at the highest point of her jump, she snapped her wings out, catching the wind with them and immediately sending her up into the air.
Unfortunately, Anika was quick to figure out that she had no control over where the wind was carrying her, and though she did flap her wings in an attempt to gain control of her flight it didn't take her long to realise that she was about to crash-and that it would be straight into the guy that had appeared.
"Look out!!!" She was barrelling straight for him, and in a desperate attempt to keep from crashing into him she rolled to the side, much like she would when swimming. Her ploy worked, and she missed him-or at least, she hoped she did-and instead went crashing straight into a nearby bush.
