The Academy began as a Heavenly training facility for all angels, a place where angels found their talents and went on to join the ranks of the Heavenly hosts. These talents ranged from the active pursuit and extermination of demons, retrieval of holy relics and artifacts, to interaction with humans. In the beginning all angels went through this training to receive their wings and soul weapons, but this was in a time of naivete when fallen angels did not exist and Lucifer was still a good boy.
Several thousand years ago, Lucifer saw an opportunity to use the Academy to recruit followers to aid in his attempt to take over control of Heaven. While his attempt was unsuccessful, it was enough to rattle Heaven, who in their blissful ignorance had not foreseen the attack.
The Archangel Council convened and for the safety and security of Heaven, it was decided that the Academy would no longer be used for training, and it, along with Lucifer and his followers were sent to Purgatory.
For thousands of years, the Academy has stood, protected from the fallen angels and the other creatures in Purgatory by angelic sigils. All the while, these fallen angels have been biding their time, learning ways to harness demonic powers and try to find a means of escape from their prison. There are a few of the fallen, who having seen the error of their ways, are striving to earn their place back in Heaven, but this will not be an easy task.
As the Heavens have watched the Earth spiraling out of control from wars, faith wavering as miracles are few and far between, the Archangel Council has once again convened as it has become apparent that the current training regime is inadequate.
It has been decided that the Academy will be reopened for training, although it will stay in Purgatory for the time being as a test to see if the angelic recruits will rise to their Heavenly tasks or will they fall and join Lucifer in a New World Order? But the fallen aren’t the only dangers that lurk in the dark in Purgatory. There are creatures of all sorts, nightmarish things just in the shadows eyeing the recruits and waiting for a time to pounce.
