Anika looked around the gym, a smile tugging at her lips. This place, to her, was a fighter's dream-the equipment was not only top notch, but well cared for, too, and that meant she was more than willing to use it. That wasn't what she was here for, though, and she moved out onto one of the practice mats, having already shed her shoes at the edge.
Planning on stretching her muscles before Jay arrived, she began going through her exercises, revealing some of her hard-won flexibility as she did. As a former bodyguard, she'd often been teased by her coworkers about it, but she hadn't really minded. After all, it was that same flexibility that meant she was able to dodge blows they couldn't, saving her from many a bruise or broken bone while on the job. Now was no different, so far as she was concerned. A broken bone was still painful, even if there were angels who could heal an injury like that with relative ease.
She'd chosen baggy trousers, knowing she would need the freedom of movement they would provide, and a skintight sports crop top in a green the same deep shade as her eyes, and her hair was firmly tied back and braided in a thick rope that hung down her back-Anika didn't believe in letting her hair free often, as the last time an enemy had caught hold of it in a fight... Well, she wasn't sure if she regretted not using the dagger she'd been holding to cut herself free, but then, she may not have ended up here if she had.
A noise behind her caught her attention, and she twisted around from where she'd been reaching for her toes in a front-back splits to see if it was Jay.

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you ♙words: #398; ♙tags: Anika Trisken; ♙lyrics: Wicked Game by Chris Isaak; No, I don't want to fall in love
Jayson yawned as he finally awoke and rose from his bed. It was way too early and he was tired. He honestly wanted to just crawl back into bed and grab a couple hours of rest until Michael or Azrael came in like a drill sergeant and forced him up. Sadly he had made plans today, he was to meet up with a girl named Anika and train some. It was way too early for Jayson's taste but he knew he needed to just suck it up and get over it. He got himself cleaned and dressed and eventually headed out of his room and down to the gym.
He never really liked going down underground in Purgatory, it made him feel... Uneasy. He had only been down there a few times now, first when he arrived and was shown around and then a couple times training. As Jayson dragged his feet down the stairs, slowly lowering down underground, his mind traveled to Chris. His brother was here now and Jayson was happy to see him again, happy to be able to talk to him but something seemed off with Chris. Jayson was usually a good judge of his character but this time was different, he didn't know what was up. It had to of been his fault, he left him and their dad... He knew how his father and brother's relationship was and he can only imagine how hard it was on poor Chris after he passed. Jayson sighed a bit and shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck. He had to get his mind elsewhere for now, he had to focus on training.
Once he finally got down the stairs and moving down the hall he eyed the big, seemingly heavy, swinging doors. He watched as they grew in size as he got closer and once he made it to the doors he opened the right side quietly. He slipped in silently and immediately his eyes locked on the backside of Anika. However his presence was announced as soon as the big door shut loudly and Jayson's eyes widened. Wow that door makes that much noise?! He smiled a little when she turned around to see what that noise was.
"Hey.... Anika." He said sort of awkwardly, as he took note of her clothing. Jayson didn't dress specially at all. Nope, he wasn't thinking.

Anika watched as he looked her over, and then shifted to bring her feet under her before standing up. He hadn't come prepared, that was for sure, and she suspected he may end up regretting that at some point. "Morning, Jayson. Ready to get started? I can show you some exercises to loosen up your muscles, first." Looking him over now, he seemed almost a bit... distracted, somehow. Her eyes narrowed a little, wondering if it had anything to do with the new arrival she'd heard about the other night-not that she knew anything about the guy. She often kept to herself, anyway, so getting to know someone would mean that she had deliberately approached them. Now, though, she just wanted to concentrate on this training session. Anything else could come later on as far as she was concerned, so she hoped he was ready to put everything else to one side and concentrate. Jayson Anderson

As she stood Jayson made his way over to where she was, nodding in response to her question. "Yeah, I'm ready." He furrowed his brow lightly to her idea. "Do you mean like stretching and stuff? Do we really need to?" Jayson wasn't use to fighting, he never really thought you'd have to stretch before hand but hey, it sounded about right.
Anika's observation was definitely not wrong. Jayson couldn't help but think about his brother, his undecided brother. He wanted Chris to chose protectorate but Jayson knew that was selfish and he needed to let Chris do whatever it is he wanted to do. It was just a shock how undecided Chris was since Jayson had no problem choosing the protectorate group.

Anika raised an eyebrow as he approached, unable to fight the small smile now tugging at her lips. "Yes to both those questions-we do it to prevent injuries like pulled muscles and cramps. It also helps improve flexibility and encourages the muscles to warm up before you use them, making it less likely that you would have a build up of toxins in the blood."
Making sure to step away from him a little, she pulled her left arm across her chest, her right arm locked in place over it with her fist by her ear. "Not only that, but some stretches can improve muscle strength, too. Stretching isn't just important to learning how to fight, it's vital."
Admittedly, stretching before a fight wasn't always possible, but in training it was something she always made sure to do. She'd had a few fights were she hadn't loosened up first, and had found that injuries like bruises were a lot worse than they would have been, and took a lot longer to heal, too.

He nodded a little, thinking yeah duh that was obvious, come on get with the program Jayson. "Right, of course... That's obvious. Don't want to pull something." He chuckled slightly, hoping he doesn't make a huge moron of himself. He listened to her words and nodded a bit. "So, uh... Stretches like... Just stretch?"
Jayson goes ahead and stretches his arms like he just got out of bed. He thinks back in school when he had to do stretches and thinks maybe he should do those... Or maybe he should just let this chick show him like she said.

Anika watched him a moment, and then sighed. He was clearly too distracted by whatever he was worrying about for training, so she made the decision and stepped off of the mat. "What's worrying you, Jayson? You're not normally this distracted." She may not know the guy well, but when anyone acted like this, it was pretty obvious something was up. After all, everyone who came down here for training knew about why stretching was important, and which stretches they would need to do, too. Not only that, being distracted could lead to accidents-something she knew all too well. Jayson Anderson Ooc: I'm just as bad, so don't worry about it! Besides, your posts are brilliant. =^.^=

He blinked and his eyes widened slightly. "Huh? Me? Nothing! Nothing's wrong." He said smiling. Honestly he knew his brother was on his mind and this whole thing about Chris not being sure where he fit in... Well, it had Jayson worried. He swallowed and looked down before rubbing the back of his neck with a small sigh. "I guess I do have a lot on my mind right now... My brother arrived here not too long ago and he still hasn't decided upon a faction to join and I'm just nervous for him is all." He ended his sentence with a small chuckle and smile, dropping his hand to his side.
It was more than that and Jayson knew it, he was scared that if his brother didn't join a group he'd end up like one of those angels they've heard stories about.... Fallen... The thought of that alone made Jay uneasy, wondering what fallen exactly were like and... What Lucifer was like. He decided he didn't want to think on it and he raised his right hand lightly as he spoke. "Okay, let's just practice. Enough of that mumbo jumbo. So stretches. Yeah." Jayson took a couple steps back and began to do some stretching of his own, working on getting Chris and everything else off his mind. Man, honestly, he wished he could go sleep some more. Though he could hear his mother in his mind, "Snooze ya lose, Jay." It was a nice memory of his mother and he wondered where she was now, maybe in Heaven.

"Jayson. That mumbo jumbo has killed in battle before-I've seen it happen. In training, it can break bones. So while I appreciate that you want to get started on this, you need to work things out, too." Anika crossed her arms with a small sigh, knowing she likely wouldn't get through to him. She had to try, though, and wasn't giving in. "Your brother has to make the choice for himself as to what group he'll join, but I'm gonna make a guess and say that's not the only thing worrying you about him. Am I right...?" If he evaded her this time, she'd let it go and try to do what she could with their training session, but if he was willing to talk about it then they could easily put it off a lithe while. Jay stood there, his thoughts wild about his mother and trying to make an excuse for her absence, a small part of him hoping that she did pass on and didn't just leave her family. However his thoughts were short lived as Anika decided to be forward with Jayson and tell him he had stuff he needed to work out. He wondered what this girl had been through exactly to have that knowledge. No doubt it had to of been her past life, before she became a recruit in Purgatory. Jay took notice of the way she crossed her arms and sighed, he wondered if it indicated anxiety, driven by a lack of trust in Jayson or an internal discomfort and sense of vulnerability at the moment.
"You're right, I do have things I need to work out..." He replied with a soft sigh, itching his forearm as his eyes looked away from her and scanned the gym quickly. As soon as Anika mentioned that there was more behind it he quickly looked at her and shook his head. "No, why would there be?..." Jayson knew that there was, he was worried about how his brother had changed. That small little glint in his eye, his lack of respect for some of the higher ranking angels, and his new and angered demeanor that Chris tried to hide. There was something different about Chris, and Jayson knew it. He feared it.
"You know what?... Maybe we should do this a different time." He added on after a couple seconds of silence, backing up as he put his hands up. "I should go clear my head... Maybe get some more sleep, I'm sorry." Jayson understood her point on how it could be dangerous but he couldn't talk to her about all this, he barely knew her. To Jayson she was just some nice girl who wanted to help him train, who was his comrade in the same faction as him. It was easier to go and hide from your problems, or rather not hide from them.... But take them on by yourself, alone.

Disappointment briefly filled Anika, though she managed to keep it off of her face. She sighed, and nodded. It wasn't as if he knew her well enough to confide in her, after all. Although... She got the sense that he had no intention of facing up to his problems, and that could only end badly for him if he wasn't careful. "All right, then. Tomorrow afternoon instead, perhaps? There'll be more people around, but I can't see it being too much of a problem." She managed a smile, hoping to keep her feelings out of sight as she did. It wasn't just that she was worried about the guy, but now for his brother, too... It sounded as if there was a lot of unsolved family issues between them right now. Jayson Anderson

"Uh, yeah, sounds good." He replied and gave her a soft smile as he backed away a bit more. "Talk to you later, Anika." He added on as he turned around and head for the door. He gave her a small waving motion with his left hand as he opened one side of the swinging doors then slipped out. He had a lot to think about. He'd sleep on it.
