Vivian and Patrick Buchanan tried for years and spent thousands of dollars trying to conceive a child. When Katherine was born, her parents spared not a penny in their attempts to spoil their precious daughter rotten getting her the very best voice tutors, dance instructors, and fashion that their money could buy. Fortunately for them, Katherine was a good hearted soul and her caring nature kept her from becoming too rotten.

Katherine spent her early years as a dutiful daughter, attending a prestigious school during the day and spending her evenings in her lessons. It was not until her teenage years kicked in that Kat started pushing the boundaries her parents had set. It was around this time that her parents decided that their home needed some remodeling and hired a crew to come out.
[break][break]
Just a few days after her seventeenth birthday, Kat ran into one of the crew, Wes. While she tried to avoid the worker as much as she could, part of her was inexplicably drawn to his good-natured ways. He was so very different than the boys she went to school with and she found herself spending more time with him as the weeks went on. So much so that her parents took notice of this fact and threatened to fire him if she kept speaking to him. Kat was determined not to cost Wes his job, so during the day she would go out of her way to avoid him, but at night....she started sneaking out to spend time with him, until the night she was caught.
[break][break]
For her defiance, her parents not only fired Wes, but sent her off to finish her education at a boarding school, keeping the pair separated for over a year. That year seemed to only solidify for Kat how she felt about Wes and when she graduated, she secretly started meeting up with him again. At first it started out innocently enough, but it wasn’t long before talk of marriage and a family happened.
[break][break]
When Wes approached Patrick, asking for approval to marry Kat, not only was he kicked out of the house, but Kat was told that if she followed through with this marriage, she would be cut off financially and written out of the will, which was actually a bluff on her parents’ part, but ended up being an unnecessary one as they would ultimately outlive their daughter. No one could foresee that while on their way to elope, Wes and Kat would be killed by a drunk driver. The last thing Kat remembers are the lights coming over into their lane and the pain she felt while she was screaming out Wes’s name.
