Character Types

All throughout Purgatory, creatures roam the woods and waters. As of yet, they have not been able to breach the Academy’s sigils, but when the recruits venture out for training or fun, they need to be watchful of the shadows and what lurks within.


Playable Creatures

Camazotz - Creatures which inhabit the caves on Purgatory known as Camaztoz, or death bats. Like the earthly legends of vampires, the Camaztoz can take the form of bats or humans at will. They are feeders as well, but instead of blood, these creatures feed on celestial essences of angels and the fallen. A Camaztoz has the ability to completely drain an angel/fallen of their essence resulting in a permanent death state.

Vulkodlak - Lucifer, using demonic manipulation, created a curse which infects the angelic recruits and turns them into ravenous creatures with wolfish features. The bite of a Vulkodlak can turn an angelic recruit, the transition is incredibly painful and at this point there is no cure for the curse. The Vulkodlak, while they retain their knowledge of who they are, cannot control their actions as they are controlled by the curse. There is no way to reason with a Vulkodlak, so it is best to either avoid them or run.

Cailleach - Much like the banshees of legend, the Cailleach possess a supernatural screech which can shatter glass or possibly deafen a person or blow them away. The Cailleach were once angelic spirits, but after a tremendous loss these spirits warped into a being of unimaginable grief. The Cailleach's screech typically signals when someone is to pass away. It is possible, though incredibly difficult, to transform a Cailleach back into an angelic spirit if someone forces them to work through the loss they experienced.

Hamadryad - The Hamadryad are the protectors of Purgatory and are neutral parties in the fight between the angels and fallen. They are a secretive group who normally do not delve into the squabbles of others unless it endangers the flora and fauna of Purgatory, in which case they can be quite ferocious in their vengeance. These creatures can take the form of trees or humans. Their sap/blood has incredible healing properties and can be used to create a variety of antitoxins. The Hamadryad have the ability to control plant life given their connection to the trees of Purgatory. The more powerful Hamadryad (must have prior approval) can control the various aspects of the environment in Purgatory, including the weather, water, and communicate with the animals inhabiting the island.

Anansi - The Anansi are humanoid-spider creatures that weave traps around the island of Purgatory. The bite of an Anansi can cause horrible hallucinations and is potentially fatal unless an antidote is given.

Encantado - Creatures which live in the water they are known as Encantado, or trickster dolphins. These creatures take the form of humans which they can then walk on the land. Transformation is very secretive to the species and usually only do so during the night. When they shapeshift into a human they must hide their blowhole which doesn’t disappear in human form. They are known for their superior musical ability, their seductiveness and love of sex, and their attraction to parties. They crave the pleasures and hardships of human societies. They are able to cast nausea and dizziness upon beings with a single touch, cause hallucinations, and even manipulate the weather to small extents.

Sandmen - Most know the sandman as the guy who brings you good dreams at night, however those are the ones left on Earth. The sandmen in Purgatory were sent there due to the fact that they went rogue, spreading horrible awful nightmares. Sandmen are able to give dreams of whatever they wish, possessing the power to read and connect to a mind to decide on what dream they will give a person. They are able to become invisible, making it impossible to know when one is around. The rogue sandmen are able to give nightmares night after night, causing someone to get less and less sleep until eventually when they do sleep they go into a coma. From there they are able to trap a person in an infinite nightmare.



Non-Playable Creatures

Basilisks** - Small snakes that are no more than twelve finger’s in length. They are so venomous that they leave a trail of deadly venom in their wake. The basilisks are able to possess a body by sliding into it by a mouth, or another mean’s. Once inside a body they have full control and their full potential is reached. They are able to allow their eyes to change, becoming snake like slits and glow a bright yellow that if someone meets eye contact with them in this state, then they will die. However they are very easy to kill when not in a host and when one is around they release an odor that could be compared to something on fire or melting. When in snake form they do not even have fangs.

Heqet - The heqet is a special species of frog that is found in Purgatory. They are extremely rare to come across and it is said that those who do are blessed with life and fertility. They have a special healing aspect within their blood that is commonly used by the Academy to make basic antidotes to poison.

Cetaformia Anthalopus - A special species of deer. These deer populate the forests of Purgatory and are able to breathe underwater as well due to a set of gills on their muzzles.

Will-O-The-Wisp - Sad, good spirits, which did not deserve to go to Purgatory. It is unknown how these souls got lost and mislead to this realm. They resemble small floating lanterns within the forest, guiding angels home when they are lost and along safe paths. They are usually very small but a large one can sometimes be found nearby which can create and manipulate fire to protect good souls.

**Basilisks are only playable after having taken over another character.
